How Content Generation Works

Content Engine uses AI to generate full-length articles that are structured and optimized for citation by AI search engines. The system draws on your Brand Book configuration, your target prompts, and competitive analysis data to produce content that positions your brand as a credible source. Generated content is not generic filler. Each piece is tailored to address the specific prompts where your brand has low visibility, using formatting and structure patterns that AI engines favor when selecting sources.

Content Types

Content Engine supports three content formats. Each is optimized for a different category of AI search query.
Long-form articles that provide in-depth coverage of a topic. Blog posts work well for informational queries where AI engines look for authoritative, comprehensive sources.Best for: “How to,” “What is,” and educational queries.Typical length: 1,200 — 2,500 words.Structure: Introduction, multiple H2/H3 sections, key takeaways, and a conclusion.
Structured list-format articles that rank, compare, or round up multiple items. Listicles are highly effective for “best of” and product roundup queries, which are among the most common commercial prompts in AI search.Best for: “Best,” “Top 10,” and roundup queries.Typical length: 1,500 — 3,000 words.Structure: Introduction, numbered or categorized list items with descriptions, and a summary.
Side-by-side comparison articles that evaluate two or more products or services. These target the “X vs Y” queries that drive high-intent traffic from AI search engines.Best for: “Compare,” “vs,” and “difference between” queries.Typical length: 1,000 — 2,000 words.Structure: Introduction, feature-by-feature comparison table, detailed analysis sections, and a verdict.

The Generation Process

Content generation follows a three-stage process. You have control at each stage.
1

Brief

Start by defining the content brief. If you are generating from a Content Calendar item, the brief is pre-populated with target prompts and the recommended content type. You can also create a brief from scratch. The brief includes:
  • Topic — The subject of the content
  • Content type — Blog post, listicle, or comparison page
  • Target prompts — The AI search queries this content aims to address
  • Key points — Specific points, products, or angles to cover
  • Tone — Pulled from your Brand Book, or customized per piece
2

Outline

Content Engine generates a structured outline based on your brief. The outline shows proposed headings, subheadings, and a summary of what each section will cover.Review the outline and make adjustments before proceeding. You can reorder sections, add or remove headings, and refine the scope of each section.
Spend time refining the outline. A well-structured outline produces significantly better final content and reduces the editing you need to do later.
3

Full Content

Once you approve the outline, Content Engine generates the full article. The output includes formatted text with headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, and any other structural elements appropriate to the content type. The generated content appears in the built-in editor, where you can immediately begin refining it.

Using the Built-In Editor

After generation, your content opens in the Content Engine editor. The editor provides tools for refining and finalizing your content:
  • Rich text editing — Format text, add headings, insert lists, and create tables.
  • AI rewrite — Highlight a section and request an AI-powered rewrite to adjust tone, expand detail, or simplify language.
  • Word count and readability — Live metrics showing word count, estimated reading time, and readability score.
  • Target prompt alignment — A sidebar indicator showing how well your content aligns with the target prompts.
Always review and edit generated content before publishing. AI-generated drafts are a strong starting point, but adding your unique expertise, data, and perspective makes content more valuable and more likely to earn citations.

Exporting Content

When your content is ready, you can export it in several ways:
Export MethodDescription
Copy to clipboardCopies the formatted content as HTML, ready to paste into your CMS
Download as MarkdownExports the content as a .md file for use in Markdown-based publishing workflows
Download as HTMLExports a standalone HTML file
Copy plain textCopies unformatted text for pasting into any editor
To export, click the Export button in the top-right corner of the editor and select your preferred format.

Tips for Getting the Best Results

Follow these practices to maximize the quality of your generated content:
Your Brand Book is the foundation of content generation. Fill in your company description, industry, tone of voice, key differentiators, and product details. The more context you provide, the more accurately Content Engine represents your brand.
Vague briefs produce vague content. Include specific points you want covered, data or statistics to reference, and any competitive angles to highlight. The brief is your primary lever for controlling output quality.
Assign specific target prompts from your Prompts & Topics list. Content generated with clear prompt targets is more focused and more likely to address the exact queries where your brand needs visibility.
Do not skip the outline stage. Reorder sections, remove irrelevant headings, and add any topics the outline missed. A polished outline translates directly to polished content.
The strongest content combines AI efficiency with human expertise. After generation, add proprietary data, customer examples, original insights, and nuanced opinions that only your team can provide.
Do not publish AI-generated content without review. Unedited content may contain generic statements, inaccurate claims, or miss nuances specific to your industry. Always have a subject-matter expert review before publishing.
