## AI Search Engines

Also called **answer engines**, these are AI-powered platforms that generate conversational answers to user queries. PromptAlpha monitors:

| Platform | Description |
| -------------- | ------------------------------------------------------- |
| **ChatGPT** | OpenAI's conversational AI with web search capabilities |
| **Perplexity** | AI-native search engine that cites sources inline |
| **Claude** | Anthropic's AI assistant with web search |
| **Gemini** | Google's AI assistant and Google AI Overviews |
| **Grok** | xAI's conversational AI integrated with X (Twitter) |

## Visibility Score

A 0–100 score that measures how prominently your brand appears in AI-generated answers. The score factors in:

* **Presence** — whether your brand is mentioned at all
* **Prominence** — how early and prominently you appear in responses
* **Frequency** — how consistently you appear across different prompts

Higher scores mean AI engines are more likely to recommend your brand to users.

## Prompts

Prompts are the queries that PromptAlpha sends to AI search engines to monitor your brand. They represent the types of questions real users ask. Examples:

* "What is the best project management tool for small teams?"
* "Compare Notion vs Asana for task management"
* "How do I track AI search visibility?"

Prompts are categorized as **navigational** (looking for a specific brand), **informational** (seeking knowledge), or **commercial** (comparing products before purchase).

## Citations

When AI engines generate answers, they often reference specific web pages as sources. These references are **citations**. PromptAlpha tracks which of your pages get cited, how often, and by which AI engines.

## Share of Answer

The percentage of citations in AI responses that point to your brand versus competitors. If an AI engine cites 10 sources in response to a prompt and 3 are yours, your share of answer is 30%.

## Sentiment

PromptAlpha analyzes the tone of AI mentions of your brand:

* **Positive** — the AI recommends or speaks favorably about your brand
* **Neutral** — factual mention without strong opinion
* **Negative** — the AI highlights drawbacks or recommends against your brand

## GEO (Generative Engine Optimization)

The practice of optimizing your online presence so AI search engines are more likely to cite and recommend your brand. Think of it as SEO for AI. Learn more in our [GEO guide](/docs/guides/what-is-geo).

## Brand Book

## Workspace
